Brake Warning Light... 850 1995

Lately I have noticed a dash light coming on (intermttantly) when I brake. It comes on for just a fraction of a second. Anyone know what it is?

thanks...Bob

Very common problem with the third, or high-mounted brakelight. I took mine apart and cleaned the somewhat corroded contacts and reassembled- no problems. I have also read that you should treat the contacts with dielectric grease.

I'd say low coolant or low brake fluid. They both have fluid level
sensors. When you accelerate or brake (hard) the fluid moves a bit
triggering the light. Eventually it gets low enough so the light
stays on all the time. Try to figure out which bulb it is then top off
the corresponding fluid. (My money is on coolant.)

I've had the same thing with my 95 GLT Auto for several years now. I'm pretty sure it's the bulb warning light, but I haven't had to replace any of the brake lights in that same time. Seems to be just a tick.

It's probably your bulb failure light. Normally the bulb failure light will illuminate "full time" when a bulb is dead, however because brake lights are only on when you depress the brake pedal, the failure light will only illuminate when you're hitting your brakes. Because it is intermittent may mean that the bulb is lose, or on its way out. Next time this happens, just back up near a reflective surface (glass window on storefront) and tap the brakes and see which one is out. They're easy to get to from the trunk.

Burned-out or soon-to-burn-out brake light bulb, perhaps?

hi all,

I have suffered all these problems, so i go for the corroded high brake light, then faulty bulb. What i do to check is use why crook lock again the brake pedal and the seat and walk around back. Much easier and you are then able to wiggle any faulty bulbs around in their holders too.
