850 Air Conditioning 850 1993

I have recently had the air conditioning serviced on my 1993 850 due to the dreaded evaporator failure.

Although I am assured otherwise, it is of my opinion that the system is still cycling too fast. I would like to know what sort of cycle times are to be expected of these systems?

Depending on the temperature of course, but on say 28-30 C (82-85F) with fan speed 1 or 2 I am getting in the order of 2-4 seconds on, 6-7 seconds off when the car is moving and engine speed is in the order of 1500 - 3000 RPM.

Thank you in advance.

    greetings,
If you think you have evap leak try auto zone sealer about $20.00 - $30.00, it seems to work, better than $1700.00 evap replacement, although having other a/c problems working
    good luck

There is no way your cycling is normal at those outdoor temps. Your symptoms sound like low freon, or a problem with the pressure limit switch. The former is more likely.

Are suggesting that the folks who "fixed" your evaporator say this is normal? BS. Is the car being cooled adequately? Where do you live to enjoy 80F in March?!

The car is certainly being cooled adequately....

At the centre vents I get about 45-50F when the engine is at higher revs (over 1500) and thus cycling fast. I get down to about 37 or 38F when the car is at idle and cycling more like 30 seconds on, 7 seconds off. (Fan speed 2 or 3).

PS. In Australia! go get 100F+ in March!

Wait! 30 sec ON, 7 sec OFF is different than you originally posted! This *may* be normal. When doing this test, do you have the recirc switch set to 'fresh'? If set to 'recirc', the cycling will happen more often.

Cycling 20-30 seconds on at IDLE!......as soon as revs rise above 1300-1500RPM cycling goes off again after 3-5 seconds.

Sounds like you're still low on freon. Do you know how much was added? The correct way to re-charge an AC system to to first recover it all as by doing that, the machine weighs the freon so the tech knows if it was low or not (thus leaking). It's then re-charged and the system takes 1.65lbs of 134a.
If one's doing it any other way, he's just guessing and the car will then have either too or too little, both equally bad.
