Strange Engine problem (ignore other post)

I have a 1998 S70 T5 and as of several days ago, the engine has started having this strange problem. The engine refuses to go higher than 4000 rpm. If I force it past 4000 rpm, the engine sounds kind of like its weezing and produces almost no power. It seems almost as though there were a rev limiter at 4000 rpm. I can't figure out at all what this is.
After this happens, the Check Engine light blinks and then stays on. Under 4000 rpm, the car functions normally. Thank you in advance!

Pep Boys auto stores will read the codes for you for free.
Thats the place to start. You can also buy a OBDII code reader.
I have a 98 T5M and purchased a reader to pull some codes from my
car. So far, I've only had one check engine light and only used it
once. But, all my co-workers with newer model Pontiacs sure do get
some use out of it :)

Leaky turbo hose(s) losing pressurised air under boost?

Check for tears/cuts or loose connections.

Bye, Arno.

Try taking out the ECU and re-install, making sure all contacts are clean. I don't know what to clean contacts with, but I'm sure someone on the board does. Make sure your car is cooled down 15min before removing ECU. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Have the fault codes read...

...by a mechanic/car parts store. Then you'll be able to tell the board what's wrong with 'er.
