My navigation system screen starts out very dim(unreadable) for 5 to 10 minutes on the first daily use. The panel light brightness control affects the screen very little. Once warmed up it all seems OK. I am able to run it with the panel lite control at minimum. The car is garaged and did this in the summer too, although it may be worse in winter. It's a DVD based system. Any thoughts on this?

The LCD needs to be replaced. You have a bad backlight(s) on that LCD, which if not replaced, will eventually go totally dim making the screen unreadable.

Thanks Vince, Do you know how common this problem is? Hard to demonstrate to the dealer without overnight leave.
