Buy a 1993 850 GLT ??????????? HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 850 1993

Hello out there....

I am new to the board and a new Volvo fan since the purchase of my 88 740 GLE. ( Awsome Car!). As much as I love my 740, I have run into a great deal on a 93 850 with only 133K. My question to anyone out there that can help.. Are there any dissadvantages to buying a 93 instead of a 94+. According to my local dealer the 93 is plagued with problems. They went on to say that he would buy a 94 with 3 times the Kms. I didn't think there was much difference other than the front bumper. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I only have a few days to act on this deal.

Hi

If the 93 US models are anything like the European ones DO NOT buy one. I own two pre 94 850's and they both suck. Get yourself an oldfashioned v8 pickup truck instead :-)Maybe not the look you want, but at least they work.

Like everything, it depends on the price. Parts are a little harder to come by (rotors, wheels) and t-belt change interval is a little shorter (50K mi.). If all the typical 850 things (transmission, a/c) check out then I would buy one for the right price.

Well, the 93s were the first year in the US. There are differences; 4 bolt wheels instead of 5 and the transmission was improved for 94. The timing belt was improved also. If you have service records to see what's been fixed and serviced, you have more to judge by. The dealer is not completely nuts on this one.
