Side mirror heaters 850

Has anyone diagnosed and /or repaired the side view mirror heaters? Mine no longer function, but the rear defroster works. Thanks.

Side mirror heaters

A little question!
My '94 T5 has the passenger door mirror not turning or demisting, drivers side is fine.
I have taken the glass off, no corrosion etc. I have lifted the switches in the centre console, seemed ok and I checked the door connections.
Any other suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers in advance

The heated mirror is usually what fails. Befor replacing it, remove the mirror and check for corroded contacts. Operate the mirror such that it is at a severe angle to let your fingers get in behind it. Pull the mirror straight out. It is held to the motor mount by four plastic tabs. Some force may be required. If after cleaning and re-seating the contacts the problem persists. Purchase a new heated mirror from the dealership. The are not expensive and install by now straighting out the angle of the motor and simply snapping in the new mirror applying equal force to all four corners of the mirror.

I have yet to see one corroded.

Did they both quit working about the same time? You might want to try a volt meter and make sure power is still getting to the contacts prior to purchasing new mirrors.

Simple fix though. A fun do-it-yourselfer

They did not go out at the same time. Haven't tried the VOM yet, but will -- thanks. My thinking is if the rear defroster is working there is voltage present, since I believe the defroster and mirrors are on the same fuse.

The heater elements are known to go out in the glass itself. They're about $35 to replace. One of the cheapest Volvo parts out there. As indicated in a previous post, this is a quick do it yourself job.
