New radiator? 850 1995

Just got some news at my local radiator repair guy. After having my cooling
system reverse flushed for the winter, he pointed out to me that my plastic radiator had cracks all along the exterior fins and that it most likely will
need to be replaced at some time. He also told me that it would run me a hefty
$450 for the part and labor. Wow! And this wasn't even a Volvo dealer.
Anyway, has anyone had to replace their radiator recently and if so, can you
recommend a good O.E. replacement? I can't believe Volvo made the outer shell
out of plastic. The inner core could be fine but the outer plastic shell screws
up everything.

Thanks & Happy Holidays!

    New radiator? 850 1995

I replaced mine this summer. I bought the radiator from Dealer for about $250, and then I bought all the new bolts, nuts and hoses. The total came down to about $3xx. It was less thatn $400. I did the replacement myself in my garage. My radiator side tanks were fine but the lower tranny hose connection was rusted very bad and started to leak ATF in a small amount. I could smell the ATF when the car was running. Dealer kept saying that they could smell nothing!!

After the replacement, no more ATF smell at all. I also put in new Volvo coolant.

    New radiator?

I had to have the radiator on the wife's 95 855T replaced last year due to a crack with a small leak. I too was amazed that they make the things out of plastic. The price was about what you were quoted at my local independent shop. I feel your pain...
