Is this great web site or what. So far i got answered all my questions, and help is very usefull. My problem is, first of all this my first Volvo, so I might be mistaken but seems to me that Turbo is kicking in very slowly on my car. What i Meant to say is , when I push the pedal it takes about 1-2 seconds before i feel the power kicking in. is that nomal, and if it isn't what can i do to improve it?

Is your automatic transmission downshifting? 2 seconds seems a bit long.

I have a manual transmission 98 T5 and if the tac shows 2000 RPM and I
floor it not much happens for a couple seconds (especially in higher
gears). If your car is not downshifting when you accelerate rapidly
then the lag could be a couple seconds as RPMs and boost build.

There should be a noticable lag ... But 2 FULL seconds (ie. you can slowly count "One-Massachusetts, two-Massachusetts)?

Turbo-lag is one of the things that the car mags find annoying (the other is the gobs of torque-steer) but they're evaluating it as a CAR not as a VOLVO.

If you drive a twin-turbo S80T6 the lag virtually gone.

Try driving another T5 at your dealer .

The T6 lag is gone because they're LPT's, which spool faster. And perhaps the driveshaft arms are equal length, which would reduce torque steer. (Apparently this solution has dramtically reduced torque steer in the new SAAB 9-3).

The S80s T6 runs 10.2 lbs boost and has a 2.8 liter displacement
(instead of 2.9 for normally aspirated) on 98 through 01 models.
Latest model is 2.9L. So I think its HPT by the definition applied
to the 70 series (but Volvo has never used the LPT / HPT nomenclature
on the 80 series). In any case, the twin turbo design is what reduces
turbo lag and still allows high boost levels. I think the exhaust
sides (housing) on the turbos is ceramic which might also help retain
heat energy and also reduce lag even further.

Turbo lag IS an issue, and the T5 or R models with larger turbos have to wait a little longer; the small-bore low pressure turbo spools faster. The payoff comes when the turbo does get spooled up - the torque comes on and stays on. The first question to ask is how long does it take you to get to 60mph? Even with turbo lag (and amateur launch technique) you should be mid-7 seconds for low pressure turbo, mid-6 seconds for high pressure turbo.
