How often to change spark plugs on a Turbo? 850 1995

The last tuneup on my 854T was at 30k miles. I now have 44,500 miles and was wondering when it should be done next? At 60k, or is that too high? I want to have my car staying at optimal performance levels and good mileage. Should I change them at my next service? (49k)

Thanks!

Owners manual says.......... 850 1995

30K mile intervals and those who go by that (most people) never have any spark plug related problems when using OEM Volvo spark plugs.
There's no good reason to change them early or try using ANY other type spark plug unless getting them is not convenient, like there's no dealer nearby.

T-Belt 70k OR 7 years... 850 1995

I've read numerous posting by Volvo techs that say the belt interval is 70,000 miles, OR 7 years, so yours is due! Good call.

It depends on your driving style. If you drive hard, much sooner than that. Volvo recommends the change after such a high amoundat of mileage to make the price of maintence appearing lower in things such as cosumer reports.

If you are using copper OEM plugs, you will probably need to change them every 30k. It's easy to pull the out and check them. OEM plugs arn't very expensive. There are other plugs that may last longer with the same performance, but if I mention them too much the OEM crowd might start in =)

BTW, don't use platnium plugs in a turbo.

What does 'driving style'... 850 1995

...Have to do with T-Belt changes? I've never heard of such a thing (not to say that driving style DOESN'T accelerate wear) It's just a new one on me.

Thanks for the feedback Russ. My next service, at 49k miles I'll get the plugs swapped out and get that timing belt replaced. Although it says 70k miles for the t belt I would rather take caution then have the belt snap and have to buy a new engine ($3500 according to dealer).

I change my plugs once a year (20k miles or so) on my cars, turbo or not. I use OEM volvo-branded plugs, too.
