Hello Group:

Can a trip computer be installed in the dash of an 850 that originally came without one, in place of the clock module in the gauge cluster? Are any parts required beside the computer and the selector switch? Thanks.

    I did the install. My 850 originally had the clock/temp guage, I bought a used computer from someone on ebay. I had to supply the switch and wiring harness. I never had to enter a pin# though. Maybe it depends on the year. Mine is a 96, but I have a feeling that none of the years need a pin#. It is a simple install, if you get yourself a set of small torx bits. The dash pad does not need to be completely removed, just remove the screws from the drivers half, and lift it enough to remove the display. any other questions?

    Yes, but the upper dash pad and instrument cluster must be removed to do it and you'll need a PIN # supplied by a Volvo dealers parts department. The PIN # is then entered using a Volvo dealers exclusive scan tool known as a VST. I know of no other to to it so if you're serious, you'ld might as well pay the dealer to install it the complete kit IMHO.
