Jag V8 to go into new V90 (and XC90, and...)

Read this at autoweek.com, dated 8/30

"Volvo to reveal its first V8-powered wagon at January’s Detroit auto show
=====================================================
"Volvo will reveal its first V8-powered wagon, likely to be called V90, in concept form at January’s Detroit auto show. Given Volvo’s recent record of putting concepts into production—the new XC90 off-roader was thinly disguised as the ACC concept, for instance—the go-ahead for the V90 is likely. An early 2005 on-sale date is penciled into Volvo’s product plans.

"Jaguar’s 4.0-liter V8 engine is the likely powerplant of choice. Volvo engineers evaluated the 4.6-liter Lincoln Town Car engine and other Ford V8s, but all were ruled out as insufficiently refined and too bulky to fit under the V90’s hood.

"Engineers have solved a major hurdle in shoehorning the Volvo-tweaked Jag V8 across the engine bay for Volvo’s transverse/front-drive installation, opening the door for V8-engined XC90s and S80s in the future"

The Jag V8 is better known as the Lincoln LS V8. Couple of minor tweaks, but the same engine.

Minor tweaks ? the only thing that they have in common is that they both use the same crankshaft. everything else is different. i.e. different intake, camshaft etc.

I was hoping for a T-8

The growing mongrelization of the once-vaunted Volvo purebred anti-car. To bad this board doesn't have automatic emoticons. I'd use the one where the guy's laughing so hard he's crying. Or is it the other way around?
