Mass Air Flow Sensor S80 2000

I'm getting very nervous about my '00 S80. Had MAF replaced 7/5/01 @ 10,578k miles. About 14k miles later and another replacement is needed. Any ideas what would cause this to happen. Luckily warranty covered the replacement. I understand this would about an $800 repair.

One of the possible codes that could indicate the need to replace the MAF sensor also has vacuum/boost leaks as possible causes. It could very well be that you just have a loose vacuum hose that the dealer didn't spot, but has instead chosen to throw parts at it. (They make more money by billing Volvo for replacing the part than they would for reconnecting a vacuum hose.)

I recently had the opposite problem: dealer claimed it was a popped hose, etc, when ultimately the problem was solved by replacing the MAF sensor. More details at:

    Clarice:

What are the symptoms of a failing MAF sensor? I ask becauuse my '00 T-6 has started developing a strange "jerk" during hard acceleration, and at times I can also feel it while crusing or accelerating uphill. It does not happen too often, but when it does it feels as if I was intermittently pressing and releasing the gas pedal, while of course I am punching it all the way. I had no idea what the cause of this might be (I was thinking about a lesser cause, such as dirty fuel injectors or air filter...), but now you made me wonder about this sensor. My car is well out of the original warranty (nearly 60,000 miles, so far trouble-free except for the AM radio thing), but I bought an extended which I hope would cover it.

Thanks for any input on this. My routine 60,000 miles service is nearly due and I would like to be a bit more prepared when I go to see the dealer.

      Umberto,
Symtoms are power surges while idling. Car feels like it's going to take off by itself. You really have to hold down the brakes. Tack jumps up over 10K rmp while sitting still.
