IPD/TME exhaust install - question about yanking the old stuff S70

My IPD/TME exhaust came in well ahead of schedule, but due to some wagon projects, tonight was the first night I've been able to start working on it. I was able to get most of the old stuff off, with some creative maneuvering and a hacksaw (had to cut one of the rear hangers off). The tailpipe/resonator-muffler/pre-resonator pipe came off in one big lump - hence the need to hack one of the hangers off.

Now, I just have the one pipe left, from cat to the resonator pipe. I think it has welded itself to the cat! Even after liberal applications of WD40, I can't get it to even budge at all - wiggling back and forth, twisting while pulling - nothing.

Is there a trick, or is it time to buy a Sawzall??

IPD/TME exhaust install - question about yanking the old stuff 850 1995

if urs is a non-awd s70, and if the s70 is the same as the 850...then the exhaust should've come out in one piece...at least, mine did...that was one of the two hardest part...all i had to do (instead of hack saw the hangers) was wiggle it past the left rear shock. the cat and exhaust should be joined together at this "bulge", with a two piece thing clamping them together... this is the second hardest part...getting those clamps off and putting the two clamps back on, aligned, with the new ipd exhaust...it's a really tight fit.

My bolts that clamped the pipes together were so rusted that almost a whole can of rust off was needed. Once I got the clamp off, it still required some spray and some pounding, but it did come apart! Good Luck!!

Ok, THAT part came off with little trouble. What I have left is about 18"-24" of pipe coming out of the back of the cat. Does that stay or come off? The rest of the system did indeed come out as one piece, but due to space constraints and the rear driver's suspension, I had to cut one hanger off.

I should have taken a picture last night - I'll take one as soon as I get home. Hopefully someone will be about to answer before I start hacking things up...

[edit] To clarify, the bolted joint above that little brace thingy (comes off with four bolts) separated easily. There are no other "joins", just a tube coming out of the cat. [/edit]

It's good that you ask. Leave it along. I believe the end of pipe (not the cat) is where you connect the catback system to. Have you assembled your IPD catback and checked if it fits.

I believe it needs to come off - the kit includes a pipe with the exact same bends as the pipe that is currently still stuck on the car. You have two replacement parts for the cat to resonator piping, which matches the stock configuration. I'm assuming it needs to be removed.

I'll call IPD today and confirm that it's a true "cat-back" system. If not, I'm going to be a little ill at them.

[edit] Forgot to add - one end of the replacement after-cat pipe is flared to mate up with the cat - not a slip-fit like the rest of the system. [/edit]
