Warning Lights (Tracs and ABS) Problem V70-XC70 1998

Hi, this is my first post with a question. My 98 XC with 57K miles is now showing me the warning lights intermittently for the traction control system and the antilock brakes. I have had these lights come on and then go off while driving on multiple occassions. I am figuring if this were a real problem with either system, the lights would not be turning off. I am betting that there is a loose electrical connection somewhere that is causing this, but I don't know where to start looking. There have been other problems too numerous to mention here, but I really would like any suggestions or advice on how I might do a simple inspection to confirm if these lights coming on is due to a loose connection. Thanks

Warning Lights (Tracs and ABS) Problem V70-XC70 1998

This looks like the early stages of failure of the ABS/TRACS controller - a known trouble spot. Prices vary widely for repair (I paid $350, others have paid much more). Also, check out the maintenance section (Bay 13) at volvospeed.com...there's technical information about the problem.

Warning Lights (Tracs and ABS) Problem V70-XC70 1998

Thanks for the suggestion. When I found what the module looked like at Volvospeed.com, I went out and looked at it on my XC and was poking around with it, when I discovered that the wiring harness and pin connector had apparently be loosened and was barely attached to the pins in the module, let alone locked in place by 2 slide lock mechanisms. It took me a few minutes to figure out how it went back together, but I think I've got it fully reconnected and locked into place. It will be interesting to see if I get anymore Tracs/ABS lights now.

Warning Lights (Tracs and ABS) Problem V70-XC70 1998

Well, I tried the XC out last night to see if the simple fix worked. Short answer, no. davidm, as you correctly suggested and based on a thorough article on the topic at bay13 in volvospeed.com, it's probably the ABS/Tracs module, which according to the article, is bolted to the underside of the hydraulic/pump block for the ABS system. Did you replace the module or the entire hydraulic/pump bloc or just the ABS/Tracs module attached to it? Thanks again.

Replaced just the module.

Warning Lights (Tracs and ABS) Problem V70-XC70 1998

I had the same problem on my '98 XC about 6 months ago and it was covered under warranty. This is a known 'issue' and even if you're out of warranty it would make sense to ask the dealer to cover the cost and replace the abs unit (that's the failure point).

Good Luck

Thanks for the info, it's certainly worth the call, since all they can do is say no. Was your car in or out of warranty when your ABS module broke. Thanks
