AND THE MAGIC NUMBER IS... 850 1996

I know it's a matter of preference, but has anyone discovered the magic psi for their tire? Of course, I'm talking about the performance oriented drivers.

'96 855T stock. I've been using 35 front & rear for a few weeks. Tires are BF Goodrich T/A KDWS (all season) 205/55/16. Too early to tell about the wear pattern.

I rides a bit stiffer than when I bought it (very recent). With kids in the back, I didn't want it too stiff. Hopefully we'll buy a minivan soon so I can drive it all by myself.

The PO must've had it lower than 35, but forgot to check the pressure before putting on new tires . Btw, I did see the underinflation pattern wear (outside) on the rear tires when I bought it, so somewhere under 35 brings underinflation pattern. Does anyone know?

    1997 850 R wagon - 215/45/17 RE 730's on stock Volans.
Stock suspention but with Volvo option strut brace.

Currently running 38 psi up front and 35 out back.

I judge the psi by shoulder edge wear. I run a few chalk lines over the edge of the tread and then go play and see how much I scrub off. Since it's a great mountain road I usually get to about 1/3 to 1/2 the shoulder scrubbed off. I'll probably play with the rear psi to offset a little of the understeer.

It depends on a lot of factors. I have H&R lowering/sport springs, Koni adjustable shocks/struts, iPd anti-roll bars, powerflex polyurethane bushings, and Toyo T1-S tires. I prefer 38psi front and 41psi rear. Just changing the settings on the Konis will change the optimal pressure on the tires.

    37 front, 40 rear Bridgestone RE950's 215/45/17

I have the rear a bit higher (psi) so it slides out a bit when cornering hard. Got to off set the understeer somehow!

    The answer is..... 850 1996

    .....42

"An answer for you?" interrupted Deep Thought majestically. "Yes. I have."
The two men shivered with expectancy. Their waiting had not been in vain.
"There really is one?" breathed Phouchg.
"There really is one," confirmed Deep Thought.
"To Everything? To the great Question of Life, the Universe and Everything?"
    "Yes."
Both of the men had been trained for this moment, their lives had been a preparation for it, they had been selected at birth as those who would witness the answer, but even so they found themselves gasping and squirming like excited children.
"And you're ready to give it to us?" urged Loonquawl.
    "I am."
    "Now?"
    "Now," said Deep Thought.
They both licked their dry lips.
"Though I don't think," added Deep Thought, "that you're going to like it."
"Doesn't matter!" said Phouchg. "We must know it! Now!"
    "Now?" inquired Deep Thought.
    "Yes! Now..."
"Alright," said the computer and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable.
"You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought.
    "Tell us!"
"Alright," said Deep Thought. "The Answer to the Great Question..."
    "Yes!.."
"Of Life, the Universe and Everything..." said Deep Thought.
    "Yes!.."
"Is..." said Deep Thought, and paused.
    "Yes!.."
    "Is..."
    "Yes!!!?.."
"Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.

42 PSI all around, V70T5 wagon with factory sports suspension, IPD bars and 205/55/16 Dunlop SP5000s. No uneven wear pattern (yet).

Much better than the factory #s but still no Boxster.

    -Deep Thought

I knew someone was going to come up with this. It was just a matter of time. Thanks, Deep Thought.

Seriously, lately I've been using 42 PSI at all 4 corners.... 850 1996

I'm using the stiffer IPD bars, which are the same for sedan and wagon, unlike the factory bars. I tried the factory recommended pressures and was not happy with the handling. The higher pressures have given me handling more to my liking, although the ride is a little stiffer.

Apologies to the late Douglas Adams.....

I think I'll try your--I mean, Deep Thought's--recommendation first, and then go down the list.

"... and thanks for all the fish."
