1996 Volvo 850 turbo evaporator/general maintenance 850 1996

Hello everyone,
I just bought a 1996 850 Turbo with 82,000 miles. Having spent a great deal of time reading various articles/posts, I am concerned that I will in time run into air conditioning problems. Is there anything that I can do to prevent these problems?
I have very little information regarding the service that was done on the car to date. I do know (gratis of a service sticker), that the timing belt was changed approximately 10K miles ago. I plan to change the air filter, oil filter, change the oil/transmission fluid with synthetic, possibly replace distributor/wires-basically do a serious tune-up. I am considering using high performance parts, ie. Magnecor wires, K&N Air/Oil Filter, Bosch fuel filter, etc. Are there any suggestions which type/weight of synthetic oil to use for my car, I live in Hilton Head South Carolina and rarely have days below 40 degrees and often have days in the 90's-100's.
Also, can anyone provide feedback on Magnecor wires, worth the added expense, or waste of money?
Thanks for the advice.
Dan
