1996 Volvo 850 turbo evaporator/general maintenance 850 1996

Hello everyone,
I just bought a 1996 850 Turbo with 82,000 miles. Having spent a great deal of time reading various articles/posts, I am concerned that I will in time run into air conditioning problems. Is there anything that I can do to prevent these problems?
I have very little information regarding the service that was done on the car to date. I do know (gratis of a service sticker), that the timing belt was changed approximately 10K miles ago. I plan to change the air filter, oil filter, change the oil/transmission fluid with synthetic, possibly replace distributor/wires-basically do a serious tune-up. I am considering using high performance parts, ie. Magnecor wires, K&N Air/Oil Filter, Bosch fuel filter, etc. Are there any suggestions which type/weight of synthetic oil to use for my car, I live in Hilton Head South Carolina and rarely have days below 40 degrees and often have days in the 90's-100's.
Also, can anyone provide feedback on Magnecor wires, worth the added expense, or waste of money?
Thanks for the advice.
Dan

10-30 synthetic should be a good all year round oil for you. you may opt for a heavier weight but chances are you'll have to put up listening to your lifters go tick-tick-tick. i use 0-30 in the dc area all year round.
    regards

I would use only OEM Volvo oil filters. there have been many comparisons and tests done and they are about the best for the turbo engine.

As for the K&N air filter, I choose the Amsoil filter that is about 20.00 dollars cheaper, flows more air than the K&N, and has a better filtering efficiency. just my opinion but I think the amsoil is a better buy. I have used both K&N, oem, and Amsoil.

Amsoil cost about 32.00 and K&N is around 50.00 i think.

Magnecore wires are suppossed to be excellent, but for the same amount of money you can go through 3-4 sets of OEM wires over the life of your car.

    I use Mobil1 10-40 but i am going to switch to Mobil1 15-50?

Thanks Dan. Did some more reading, looked at some performance comparisons, and ordered amsoil filter. Also, Dawes boost controller appears to be an easy, inexpensive way to improve performance. Do you use Dawes factory settings or have you made adjustments? Any drawbacks, ie. spikes when shifting, lack of fuel, etc? Would you recommend this performance upgrade and do you have any words of wisdom when installing or adjusting. Do you use factory settings and have you measured the fuel/air ratios? Thanks,
      Dan

Dawes Device: i would reccommend but you need to have a Boost gauge in order to adjust the controller. Performance increase is incredible. Air/fuel is no problem as far as the ECU is concerned. No Check Engine Lights, no decresae in MPG, no spikes in boost if installed correctly.

I adjusted mine to 9-10 PSI of boost from the stock level af a bout 6.

go to www.t5uk.com for installation tips. I placed my controller next to Air box so i can easily adjust it if needed.

A/F ratio has not been measured. People will say otherwise, but VOLVO programs into the ECU A/F adjustments for times when the boost spikes due to another problem and this allows you run a higher boost with the Stock ECU programming. You just can not exceed the reccommended limits for the boost. 13PSI for HPT engines and 10 psi for LPT engines.

if you want instructions on install email me for them.
