Car companies tend to post best case scenario mileage ratings. Your actual mileage will vary due to individual conditions. Traffic jams, improperly inflated tires, personal driving habits and bad weather will play a roll in your actual mileage.
22mpg might be a little low. I have an S40 which is a little lighter so I would anticipate gas mileage between the S and V to be maybe 1 or 2 mpg. I get 27mpg when I'm driving the car day to day (60%city,40%highway with some traffic). My wife gets 23-24mpg under similar conditions....no I don't drive slow, she hits a little more traffic to and from work. On a out of town trip last weekend we got 32.2mpg highway driving with three people in the car doing 80-90mph.
Aside from checking your tire pressure, you might want to switch to a synthetic oil (Amsoil or Mobil 1). This should help you pick up maybe 2 mpg.
