Hi,

My 95 850 turbo wagon needs front brakes (85,000 miles. It has been about 20 years since I have change my own brakes, but I would like to try again. Is there anything funny about Volvo brakes. I am used to a couple of bolts on the caliplers, pull the rotor, drop in new pads and reassemble. Do I have to worry about ABS speed senors? Are the the slotted or drilled rotors worth the money? Any info would be much appreciated.

It's very easy. Use the grease or they will squeal.

You will need a 7MM hex socket. Your set may not have one.

Very easy job. Hardest part is getting the rotor off (I guess
some rust a bit; mine practically fell off, though). There is
a 10mm pin for aligning the wheel that has to come off to get
the rotor off -- just don't forget that part.

You can mail order the parts, at discount, from
the advertisers on this page (just scroll up). I've used
www.volvoparts.com several times.

I also prefer OEM parts -- they seem to be less likely to squeel
(based on postings on this board). Plus, the performance is pretty
good.

easier than 20 years ago, no sensors just a spring clip which if you are lucky you can reinstal in one try. I used the volvo silicone grease this time and its great, no squeaks or anything.

Same as with any car. Should be about 30 minutes per side. Volvospeed.com has the instructions.
