Howling sound from Aircon S70 1998

Recently my S70T5 is making a howling sound in the cabin when the A/C is turned on.

A/C has enough R134a gas and compressor isn't cycling....suggestion to what the problem may be?

    Howling sounds are commonly caused by the fan trying to draw air through a clogged pollen filter. Try using recirc and see if the sound goes away. With recirc selected, the system does not draw through the filter.

      Thanks for the tip Bill, I do have the sound continuing when I accelerate with the A/C one and it's progressive (together with the rpm climb).

      btw my pollen filter is due for replacement so I'll change it and check whether does the sound reduces.

      But why would the sound increase during acceleration if that was the problem? and just turning the fan up manually would produce that sound without the ac on, would it not? (if the pollen filter was to blame that is)

      Hi DG,

      It occurs even at idle, but does get louder when accelerating...so what do U think could be the problem?

        Mine does the same, but I only notice it during acceleration. Heres the thing though, I had AC problems last summer. They are going to try and recharge the system this year when i have problems again. My compressor also cycles ALOT when I have this no AC problem. I don't recall if any dye was added to the system for leaks or anything, I'll have to get the papers out and see exactly what they did. So far when I have used the AC this year it has worked perfectly, with the exception of the howling noise that you also notice. That is new this year on my car. I would have to say that if definetly has to do with the compressor, but I am sorry that I don't have any other info for you.
