Another A/C Question - Error Codes 850

I'm having some weird problems with my A/C that I've shared before, stuff like air on passenger side is 10 deg warmer even when both controls are on max cool, and also if the heat turns on when car is started, it will not switch to A/C until the car is turned off and restarted.

Some asked if I was getting error codes, which I didn't think I was. But now as I've been paying closer attention, I've noticed that every once an awhile (about 1 out of 10 times) the recirc and ac light will blink when the car is turned on. If I turn the car back off and then on, the lights don't blink again. And again, it doesn't happen every time I get in the car, just every once and a while.

I've got a replacement control unit on order, so hopefully it might solve some of my problems, but if anyone familiar with the error codes, and what might cause them to be intermittent?

Thanks in advance!
Alex

Another A/C Question -lights flashing 850 1996

wow. I just noticed this morning my ac/recirc lights were blinking and was going to post today if anyone knew what that meant. Hope its not a problem of things to come. I'll keep searching=-let me know if you find out anything more.

Mine flashed for about 30 seconds, then stopped and A/C worked fine

Another A/C Question - Error Codes 850

the lights do not neccessarily mean you have low freon. My AC lights have been blinking since last november!! the car has very cold AC and does not need recharged or is it leaking freon.

I asked the dealer Service Mgr and he told me the lights usually usually indicate a electrcal problem (internal temp sensor for cockpit, etc.)

they siad they have to read the codes with a Volvo service tool VST. the error codes are stored.

you can try disconnecting your battery to clear the fault code. I just changed my battery on Tuesday (see post "a word about batterys") this cleared my AC lights from flashing, but they started flashing intermttantly today. they used to flash whenever i started the car, now they flash every 2nd to 3rd time i star the car, the other times they do not flash.

Dan

hope this helps, the only way to be sure is take it to the dealer for a diag.

Alex the blinking mean low freon ??? need to be recharger ??

the book said if it blinking take the car to dealer ....

I will recharge R134 kit... cost about $25.00 very easy to do...

if you take it to dealer they may try to sell you the whole new aircondition system....

charge it first and see if the problem go away... if you have a fault code and do not read it and clear it.... the problem will come back intill it fix..
