Installing cargo nets V70-XC70 2001

My 2001 XC came with the complicated folding Nylon Cargo Net which I'm sure I will never use, as it is too bulky to carry in the car.

However, I have the 60/40 split rear seat with the integrated child boosters as in the V70. That means I also have the little compartments in the rear seat backs for the V70 "roller shade" Cargo Nets.

Has anybody tried adding the roller nets after the fact? The dealer didn't recommend it because they said it was too difficult to install, but they also told me that installing the cabin air filter was something I wouldn't want to do myself and I found it pretty easy...

Personally, I would go for it. I haven't seen the instructions, but c'mon, how hard can it really be? Like you said, they told you installing the air filter would be hard...

If you find yourself even remotely mechanically inclined I would bet you could do it. What's the worst case scenario? You order it, pick it up and try installing. Oops, this is too hard... Take it to the dealer and have them do it. I would say the attempt is worth it.

BTW, not sure what your current net is like, I have a 850, but if is the type that attaches to the D-rings on the floor, I would love to take if off your hands!

Good luck, and have faith in your abilities.

Installing cargo nets V70-XC70 2001

I'm a bit hesitant because the tech said it was easy to break the seat trim pieces when trying to remove them to install the nets.

I was hoping if somebody had tried this, or was familar with it, they could give me some tips...

Anybody have any service documents relating to this installation?

The net that came with my XC has two metal poles that fold in the middle for storage or lock open for use. The top pole fits into slots in the rear passenger grab handles and the bottom has straps that lock onto the fixed loops on the floor. This net is intended to prevent objects in the cargo area from coming forward into the passenger area by blocking the area above the rear seats with the net.

If I get the roller nets, I defintely will want to get rid of this net.

In fact, if anybody has a V70 and would be willing to trade their roller nets for this one (which is stronger and an extra cost option), let me know!
