PNP Switch..where to buy?

Can anyone tell me what PNP stands for? Is it a dealer item only? Thanks, Joe

    The gear postion sensor (also known as the PNP switch and don't know why or what it stands for) is an OEM part that is available from a Volvo parts source only.
