850 Power Mirror Problem 850 1996

Hopefully this hasn't been addressed before so I'm not being redundant - searched but couldn't find a post...

On the passenger side rearview mirror, I can move the mirror to the left, right, and down, but it will not move up. There seems to be no movement when I push the switch in the up position (not like the mirror is struggling to move - just getting nothing at all)

Would this be the switch in the console or the pwr mirror motor itself?

Thanks!!

    850 Power Mirror Problem 850 1996

    Hi Shannon,

Another reason for the mirror problems is that the motor guide may be broken. I used to have this problem on my driver's side in that it wobbled at speed and when trying to position would groan but not move. Prise out the mirror and check to see if the motor mounting will move freely itself. If it does check then the white guides to make sure they are not broken, which was the problem in my case. Lastly as the other poster mentioned use a dust buster can, or contact cleaner around the toddle switches. The unit cannot be taken apart as I have tried doing this in the past! Without costing you $$$.

    Hope this helps.

Probably just some gunk in your switch. When I bought my car a few months ago neither of the mirrors worked. I played and worked the switches for a few minutes and they started to work. Sometimes it's still intermittent especially the passenger side... Probably just from years of drink spillage from the bad cup holder design. I don't know of a fix. Maybe shooting contact cleaner into the switch while working it around? I'll have to give that a try.

Thanks all - I'll try the contact spray -- although the dealer's detailer's did a great job cleaning up the car, I can tell the previous owner was kind of messy (I'm still finding dog hair and make up when I clean the car and I've had it a month!!) -- maybe coke did get in the switches.

I just had the mirror off (replacing it because it was cracked) - and tested the motor then -- it didn't even try to move up.

I hope, hope it's just contacts!!

      Thanks again,

      Shannon
