BEST OIL FILTER TO USE 850 1996

Anyone know what's the best oil filter to use?
Should I stick with the Volvo oil filter?
Is there any other recommendations?
Thanks.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 oil with either the Volvo dealer filter or the MANN filters. Volvo filters are made by MANN so they are the same thing.

If I were to go out and buy something else then I would buy either the MOBIL 1 or the Purolator PURE ONE filter. Amsoil also makes excellent filters but I've never fallen in love with Amsoil products.

Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Pure One consistantly either top the lists, or rank in the top 5 filters, in almost all oil filter tests. The MANN filters rank perform well enough in tests that I don't have any problem using them. I would avoid any other filter. Fram's new high end filter still isn't as good as MANN.

If you can't get any of these filters where you live then call IPD or one of the Volvo parts houses and order a case. Don't forget to get the oil drain plug gaskets too.

After reading your post I did a search for filter tests on the web. I was surprised to find out how badly the Fram did in tests. I've used them for 10 years on my Nissan Sentra which still runs perfectly at 186,000miles. I've changed oil, Valvoline 10W30 and the Fram at 3,000 mles since getting the car.

I won't be using Frams anymore based on the results I've found but I think, perhaps, frequent oil and filter changes make more difference than the quality of the product. All I'm basing this assumption on is the mileage I've achieved on my Nissan. It drips a little oil from the pan/timing cover gasket but doesn't burn any. My sister-in-law has the same Nissan we do and doesn't maintain it. At 100,000 miles it's junk.

BTW, I'm using Mann on my Volvo.
