Has anyone put a Britax Advantage or Roundabout into their 01-02 V70 or XC in the rear facing mode? I just want to make sure it'll fit before I pony up for seat. In addition, has the seat lived up to its billing? Are you aware of any other convertable LATCH/ISOFIX rear facing seats? I was hoping to get the Volvo Child Safety Seat System, but no one at VCNA or Volvo Global will give me an answer if they are even going to release it in North America.

Don’t forget about the Fischer Price Safe Embrace. Consumer reports actually rated it higher than the Britax if memory serves. Problem is, Fischer Price no longer makes car seats….but, you can get the seat on e-bay for about $120 new. Lots of people stocked up on the seat when CR rated baby seats, and are now auctioning them off. We just bought one last week to complement the one we bought last year. Same basic construction as the Britax (styrofoam bolsters, five point harness, latch,isofix, etc.

The Britax is worth the money. It is by far the best child seat out there. Most of our friends had them and had pretty much done the research for us. The Britax seats excelled in all safety tests, too.

I installed ours (1998 S70) rear-facing and later forward-facing. Both installations were very secure. Even the State Trooper that inspected it at a free child seat inspection said we did a good job putting it in.

It is a little tricky installing it rear-facing with the top tether. I ended up looping the small strap (supplied with the seat) around a spindle on the front passenger seat and then attaching the top tether clip to it.

I ended up doing exactly the same thing (when we had to use it rear-faced). Now that we have turned it forward, it is even more secure. With the Volvo seatbelts locked in place, that seat is not going anywhere. And it is tremendously comfortable, only disadvantage is that it is not a seat you can carry around. But that is why you have a stroller!
