96 850 Won't Defrost Even With AC Compressor Running 850

I have a strange problem with the defrosting of the interior of my 96 850. When the defroster is running, with or without the AC compressor on, the inside of my windows always have moisture on them. I can't get the windows defrosted. I am constantly looking through a small defrosted hole on the windshield to drive. I don't think it is the typical leaking heater core. I'm not losing coolant, I don't smell glycol inside the cabin, and I don't see any coolant on the floor.
Any ideas??

    Hi Setzerc.

I have had the same problem with my '95 855t, the defroster could not clear the fog from the windshield no matter what the defrost was set on. I read that this is not unusual. The european police that have had these cars had complained of this. I bought some window anti-fog stuff made by RAIN-X, and this has helped considerably. The a/c compressor runs when the defrost setting is chosen regardless of the temprature setting. On my '94 850 this problem does not occur.

I would say that if you stick your hand up there and feel warm air blowing then you probably have a bad heater core. Either that or you have water getting into the heating and defrosting system.

If you wipe down the windshield and it fogs up within a few seconds with hot air blowing across it then you have moist air condensing on the inside of the windshield.

You mentioned the AC so I'll asume that when it is set to defrost you also have the heat turned all the way up too. The function of the AC is to dehumidify the air so that when it heats up it will remove the moisture from the windows faster.

All of this assumes you are in a cold climate. If you live in a hot warm climate then there are other issues you may need to consider. Like whether you are cooling the windshield enough to condense water out of the warm moist air onto your chilled windshield.
