Passenger door power window switch works to go DOWN but not UP V70-XC70 1999

1999 V70 XC, 60k miles.

The power window switch on the front passenger door works to put the window DOWN, but does not work to bring the window back UP.

Common problem?

Could it be something else? (All the other switches are functioning properly.)

Can you recommend a place online to order a replacement switch?

Thanks very much.

P.S. The previous owner had to repalce the DRIVER side switches FIVE times...supposedly there's a redisigned switch in there now...I don't think he had any problems with any other the other switches.

Are you still under warranty? If not, I'd chaulk this up as typical (substandard) Swedish/Volvo electrical engineering and take the switch apart first and try a little rehab work before spending any money.

Though I haven't had to do this (yet) in my S70 and the switch design is a little different, I've had to do it in every other Volvo I've ever owned: in the past, I've cleaned the contacts with emery cloth, alcohol, or some other solvent and then sprayed them with a little Tri-Flow before reassembly. (Tri-Flow is a synthetic lubricant that repels moisture and dirt, but allows electrical contact. Great stuff.) Never had to re-do any of these repairs.

I too am a member of the club... two years and I've replaced the driver's side unit twice, the passenger once and the right-rear once (last week! argh!!!!). This is a common problem, but considering the big picture, I'm glad it's not something else that likes to break every 5000 km's! Good luck, patience is a virtue! (whomever said that didn't own a '98 V70!)

    Window switches V70-XC70 1999

I haven't done this to a V70, but In a pinch, it's pretty easy to swap the bad switch with one that works in a 740. I think that a v70 should be the same.

Because the bases are keyed for different locations you won't be able to put the switch back in its proper place. Jusc let it hang out until you can get another switch. After some careful examination I cut the key off my nephew's left rear window switch and fitted it in the place of his driver's door switch. This was two years ago, and it has worked fine since. If anyone sits in the left rear seat they can open the window using the door window switch.

I'd go to the salvage yard and see if the switches are the same, there are plenty of 740 switches around.

    Hi Bill,

Welcome to the Volvo 70 series broken window switch club!

Sorry but you will have to replace the switch. Some Bricksters have taken a part the window switch once it has been remove from the car to try to get it to work again. Some have had success and some have not.

I can not help you on the part purchase. I am still under Warranty and Volvo is still paying for my window switches. To date I have replaced 4 window switches. 2 on the driver door, 1 on the front passenger door and one on the rear passenger door.

    Good Luck,

    Steven---

P.S. My Volvo Service rep has not heard of a redesign on the window switch. It is still the same old one that keeps on breaking.

Passenger door power window switch works to go DOWN but not UP V70-XC70 1999

Very recently bought a 98 S70 and noticed that the driver's door switch pack
had been replaced by the original owner under warranty. I was scanning
the dealer's warranty computer log and I said to myself, "that's a flukey thing".

Now I read that it's a common problem. WOW!!! I'm not liking this info!!

Anyone know how much a single window switch goes for or for that matter the
driver's pack? Because of the dog, my rear windows are always up and down.

      Thanks, Artic Steve

        Steve,

My dealer quoted $159 for the driver switches...don't know about the other doors.

My dealer also claimed that they were now selling a "new improved" switch that was not supposed to break like the "old" ones.
