Can you recommend an LED Low Beam bulb?

I had a set of low beam LED's in my 2006 XC70....they wore out...they also caused a message on my dash. Can anyone suggest a brand/ model of LED bulbs that are bright, effective and will not cause a dash warning? I did enjoy the bright light that they offered me (when they worked!)....I have tried every 'high end' halogen bulb, but they don't cut it. So...what LED bulb do I get?

Can you recommend an LED Low Beam bulb?

I have found in my 2015 XC70 that the LED replacements with cooling fan, which you definitely want, interfere with the re-installation of the dust cap behind the bulb. It is, in fact, the aforementioned cooling fan which is the problem. I wouldn't want a bulb without the fan (there are some with just cooling fins) but I also would not want to run with out the dust cap.

My car admittedly has a somewhat different headlight setup than that of AlanS but in looking at the exploded diagrams for 2006 it appears that he may be faced with a similar problem.

Can you recommend an LED Low Beam bulb?

Kitty suggested my response here based on my recent experience using LED headlights in the 700/900 models, which uses a halogen HB1 format 9004 bulb (a crappy design by Ford), rather the ones used in your XC70, which I believe may be H7 format for the low beams and HB3 (9005) for the high beams.

I've got no direct experience with other LED headlight bulb brands or your headlight application, but do suggest you research the Auxito brand Q16 series bulbs as ones to consider. I've only got 6 months experience with them at the moment, but so far, so good. They're reasonably well engineered, well built and more affordable than many others, including being able to buy them for almost half price direct from their online Auxito webstore in China on Aliexpress rather than through their North American distributor at Auxito.com. When bought from Auxito.com (North America) you get a full two year warranty, no need to ship them back, just send them a pic of your destroyed bulb and a copy of your receipt from them.

As for your dash warning, this is likely a similar problem to what I have with the Volvo RWD bulb out sensor relay. The bulb out sensor is triggered when the electrical draw on the left and right sides of the vehicle lighting circuit are unequal (using what's called a reed switch rather than electronics like your lamp-out module). There's a certain amount of hysteresis in the reed switch (variation tolerance) before the dash warning light goes on. With the Q16 LEDs my dash warning light is normally out, but occasionally comes on during driving. This is likely due to the variable power draw of LED high intensity bulbs to regulate their internal temperature so the electronics don't fry. High intensity LED headlight bulbs consequently lower their brightness a little bit as they warm up as well as needing to use a little variable high speed fan to accomplish this, which in the Q16 bulbs is an internal fan. In others, it may be attached at the rear. Some fans can be heard from outside the hood, some fans like the Q16 are almost silent. When the bulb temperature occasionally becomes uneven in the left and right headlights then the currents may become unequal as they self-regulate and may consequently cause a dash warning. In one of my 940s it seems more prevalent than the other. Re-flowing the solder in that bulb out relay seemed to make a major difference, but hasn't completely eliminated the problem. I also have LEDs in my other lighting circuits that may also be part of the problem.

LED bulbs are listed as either CANBUS (modern car lighting) or non-CANBUS (old style) compatible. Functionally, a CANBUS bulb can normally be used in a non-CANBUS application like ours, but may cause radio static, light flicker and bulb sensor problems. CANBUS adapters are available to deal with this. The Q16s, for example, are CANBUS bulbs that have been designed to be backwards compatible, but may not be 100% compatible for things like the bulb sensor. For the bulbs you're using now, you likely needed a CANBUS adapter to get around your dash warning problems. For other bulbs like the Q16 you may or may not need the adapter. Generic adapters can be added later if you need them.

LED headlights sometimes have fitment issues in the headlight housing, especially the large rear cooling components. The Q16 bulbs are designed with the same profile as the halogens, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Can you recommend an LED Low Beam bulb? V70-XC70 2006

    Hi Alan,

I looked up your bulb types on AutoZone as Google put AutoZone at the top of the sort.

    High beams: H9
    Low beams: H11

Would you recall the LED bulb brand you had in the headlamp bulb chamber?

I'm no expert at these LED lights yet I'm am done with incandescent halogen lighting.

Maybe the two best folk here to ask are:
B.B. - Likes Hikari brand for now, yet B.B. is a tech reviewer for these and his opinion changes as he buys LEDs and uses them.
David Stevens - Likes Auxito brand.

I have Auxito bulb in the crappy Ford US DOT crappy 1986+ 240 housing. The lighting is nearly normal and like other 21st century auto car headlamp lighting.

Both 9004 LED headlamp brands are rated at 10,000-12,000 lumen for the set of bulbs. The lux is excellent for the Auxitos in the 1991 240 headlamp where the beam cast lands, Stripes, fog lines, and signs. These bulbs are 6000°K so 'white'. I've read more yellow LED bulbs may be better in the snow as the longer wavelength reveal more or allows you to see farther than more white or bluer bulbs in °Kelvin.

Else, I'll ping B.B. and David Stevens and they can help you better.

I used Sylvannia SilverStar 9004 bulbs for years. New in the 9004 crappy US DOT Ford design crappy 1986 240 headlamps in no way compares to LED. I was worried LEDs would be illegal and would blind oncoming motorists. Not at all!

The LED bulb companies call LED headlamp for off road use and ignore that. Crappy US DOT was anti-import and pro domestic and allows Tesla crappy carS on the road that have battery modules burning down in the cars and OTR trucks and crashing and killing dumb dumb motorists using auto drive while they play video games and eat chips and salsa.

    Hope that helps.

Can you recommend an LED Low Beam bulb?

The issue with LED bulb substitution is either or not the source of light is in the proper position to use the reflctor properly.

When I got mu '54 Chevy, the brake lights were dim. I found the LED bulbs in the car had a column of small LEDs inside them. Putting regular bulbs in brought back the proper light.
