I am desperate!! I am in need of a front right cv axel for my 2006 V70R!! I had a ball joint failure that also took out my axel. Apparently an axel from a V70 will not work.

What's wrong with the drive axle?
Was it making noises?

What's the difference between a V70 and V70R drive axle?
Check with any parts store.

If you replace the drive axle, that's a good time to replace the tranny seal
for it.

Yup. Mechanic installed what they were told was the correct axel only to have it “rattle around pretty bad.” I am at a loss as to whether there is a difference between v70 and v70r axels. I apparently need to do a bit more research.

Check with Robert DIY on YouTube. Ring or text him. I've not heard him say that there are any differences and he is changing them regularly in his videos.

Are you driving it now, and it's making funky noises?
Does it snap and pop when turning?
Maybe it's not fully engaged?
If so you might find out by needing a tow.
Make a recording of the noise and post it.

Is it the original transmission?
Was the drive axle making abnormal sounds before they did anything?
Why didn't they compare drive axles before installation?
Did they bill you for a new drive axle?
If they used a bad part they should replace it.

I don't see a bad ball joint wrecking a drive axle.
Did you get your original drive axle back to see what was wrong with it?

I'd get another mechanic to look at your issue.
