Don't bother with 'conventional oil' and use 5W30 full synthetic. Still reasonably priced at Walmart. Synthetic oil will help clean up sludge and expect to flush the oil at the 2,500 mile mark along with filter. And use a Mann filter, they work! Then watch for leaks, small ones should go away on their own.
A hard leak will not be stopped as the seal is no longer in the proper position or worn out. Clean up the oil best you can and watch it for additional leaking.
Do the glove test and if it fails, replace the PCV plumbing. You do not want more stress on the seals.
