LTFT @ 6.3% and no codes! V70-XC70 2007

Apparently the criteria needed to set a lean code is much higher but is it worth chasing 2-3 percentage points?

Either way give me some tips about what to check, recently did a smoke test and corrected leak at aftercooler. Not inclined to throw parts.

Have not really driven on any 500 mile trips to check MPG?

You don't need 500 miles to check MPG. Get the engine warmed up, find a close Interstate (no traffic lights), reset the mpg on the dash computer, then drive 25 miles - make a U turn - drive another 25 miles back to where you came from and check the avg mpg. Easy.

Longterm fuel trim: Your vacuum lines are getting old and porous. I assume you have a turbo engine, which increases the number of vacuum lines and adds a Line to just before the turbo intake that can get clogged.

Have you done a 'glove' test on the oil cap?

      Taking your advice on I-75, West wind @ 14 mph-30F degrees 50+ miles averaged 22.8 mpg. 7.8% LTFT -1.6-5.5% STFT. MAF 3.0-3.9 G/S
Checked turbo pressure couple days ago @ 9.5 psi.

Coils and injectors original from used engine (unknown vintage or mileage) with the most horrible filter I have ever seen! Caused me to send a sample to Blackstone after 3 filter changes, passed, no wear metals.

compression seemed good @ 152 psi, new timing belt and water pump, fuel and air filters new.

I have work to do this Spring and will welcome any advice. Thanks Tom

This spring, check the flexible parts of the inter cooler hoses and clamps. They get soft with oil and age. And find/replace the vacuum lines anyway, they are old. If you think the front O2 sensor has more than 100K miles on it, replace it with new.

One of the Brickers had an 850 and complained about poor city mpg. 16-19 mpg around town (Boston). He decided to replace his Chinese branded front wheel bearings with German wheel bearings. His mileage around town went to 24mpg!

Just saying. Parts get old and wear. Check your tire pressure regularly in the winter, I always add 2-4 psi extra when the temps are fluctuating.

The PCV hose that lands next to oil cap like to break just below the intake.

If is got the accordion on it just below the injectors it is garbage you need to replace it. No need to removed the intake, you can access it going from right to left below the intake.

Significant improvement in MPG when I add 12 psi tire pressure,25+ with a tailwind!

I do see a couple turbo hoses that need replaced! Thanks

Thanks KlausC It does pass the glove test but I wasn't thinking about the porosity so go "old school" with vacuum gauge!
