2000 V70 SE AW-5 Denso 281k miles
Continuing this car's saga of nailing down root cause of #3 cylinder random misfire. You're probably familiar with my previous posts on this subject. To summarize:
- Misfire always occurs in #3. Sometimes it will be hundreds of miles/weeks until it recurs; sometimes the next day. No set pattern; very random and not dependent on engine load or speed. CEL just suddenly illuminates out of nowhere, then rough running.
- #3 Coil has been been both replaced and swapped numerous times.
- Coil receptacle housing has been replaced and repinned, with new wires spliced in upstream from the coil.
We're at the point in the troubleshooting sequence to pull the ECM, check/clean connections, and/or send ECM off for rebuild.
One glitch however: When ordering the ECM removal tool, the rep at ipd (usually a credible source) tells me that this tool won't work on Denso-equipped cars. Any one know with certainty if this is correct? And if so, is there an alternate tool used for removing the Denso ECM?
Thanks,
Robert
