Could this be a failed CAT? V70-XC70

Road testing a 2007 XC70 and dropped it into passing gear and immediately got a Check engine light! No real change in performance.

Looked like a good project car so I bought it!

At that time I observed stringy synthetic material coming out of the exhaust, could not pull all of it out! Makes me think it's packing for the CAT element?

Did not have a decent code reader but my OBD Fusion (not set up for Volvo) did exhibit numerous codes!

Do you think it is safe to drive for 40+ miles to get it home for repairs?

Thanks

The stringy material is just the sound damping insulation. The muffler internal pipe has failed. A failed cat usually causes power loss due to blockage.

Drive it home. Just avoid 'passing' gear.

Keeping it running is better than buying new
