2003 XC70, End of useful Life ? V70-XC70

The car was my wife's until 110,000 miles and then I took it over. The car has always been well maintained and It now has almost 150,000 miles (not much for a Volvo). My other Volvo's were always driven close to 200K miles and left my ownership still running.

About a week ago I got a Check Engine light. Had the codes read.
P2187 (Lean); PO571 (brake switch A circuit ?).
Today, While driving I got a stop immediately message and the dashboard
instrutation went out. I pulled over shut the engine off. When I started the car the message was gone and the car braked normally, as I continued towards home.
A few miles later, I felt a solid bump from the power train and the message was Transmission Service Required. I limped the car home.
Today, I carefully drove the car around the neighborhood, no check engine message, but the transmission service message was on. The care drove and braked normally.
The questions:- what does code PO571 entail
-Looks like I have an ABS module issue and I have no idea what the transmission issue is about.
-The car is almost 18 years old, is it overall time to "shoot it." ???
I will take to my mechanic and get his est. of what's going wrong and is it reasonable to bare the costs of fixing.
Open to thoughts on the above.
Thanks.

2003-2004 are unusually good years for the XC70. BUT, the computers do have a heat sink problem, meaning that they can overheat and degrade. Normally when the ABS fails, the speedometer goes to zero and stays there. The instrument cluster computer and the can-bus module are failure prone, xemodex.com has "fixes" for them.

The lean condition is usually unmetered air entering the intake manifold, or a dirty MAF.

Take a look at the tranny fluid, it should be pink/red and not brown. A 'hard' shift could be a result of the CCM failing to send the speed to the ECU, rather than a solenoid failure.

Better diagnostics from a VOLVO scan tool will help.

Thanks for the feedback. Got the car to the shop and everything (codes) indicate a problem with the BCM . I appreciate the web address for xemodex.com. I will watch a video or two on replacing the BCM.....
Have a bit of time on my hands, so may do repair myself.

If you do not have an E-5 Torx bit, look for a very small SAE bit for the 1/4 inch ratchet.

BTW. xemodex is a Canadian firm. They do good work.

I can not help on the code but end of life question I can appreciate. If you had the car since new it's a time machine of memories. All the different events and vacations taken in the Volvo are represented in it. Now the question of fix it or move on is up to you. Cost of repair vs. replace, plus the time machine factor, should give you a path to make a choice right for you.
