Codes 0410 and 0130 V70-XC70 1998

Hi,
ok 98 v70 n/a. 205k miles. My aux air pump has started making noise over the past few months so I knew it was on its last legs [I replaced it 10 yrs ago with a VW pierburg unit that I modified to match the v70]. anyhow, it set off a CEL last week. Code P0410. I reset it and ordered a pump. fast forward to yesterday. My son came home and said car cut off several times and that the CEL was back. I read the codes. Now P0410 and P0103. Knowing the aux pump really doesn't affect the running I checked it over. replaced a deteriorated vacuum line elbow and cleaned the MAF sensor. Took it for a drive. runs ok but occasionally stumbles and cuts off. will start right back up and drive normally. I searched around for a new MAF. I would ordinally buy the Bosch stuff but geez--at least $199 for this. I didn't want the el chaeapo stuff for like $20 so I compromised and ordered a Delphi unit for about $85. Delphi stuff i have used previously was ok. Anyone have experience with the Delphi MAF for Volvos?

Ok, MAF arrived and installed it last night. erased the code p0130 and reset the CEL. Car running fine. We shall see how long the Delphi MAF lasts.

I have no such experience but have seen the Delphi name all my life and have never heard the name disparaged over years of "trouble site" reading.

Someone will be along to scold you for not going to a junkyard and fetching a real Volvo one but at your car's age the thought of buying one which has been out in the rain and snow for years isn't attractive.

You'll see how long the Delphi unit lasts.

Regarding your air pump: Did you did address the air check valve against the firewall? If it fails, moisture laden exhaust gas backs up into your air pump. The water condenses, collects and kills the electronics which I've read is on the bottom of the box.

One tip was to drill a small (3/16") hole in the output air hose boss. The fan can more than keep up and it sprays the water out.

Thanks. yes the air injection circuit valve is new. There was not any rust or condensation in the old pump [just tired motor, I think] I actually got it running out of the car but think it was probably sticking intermittently. The new [used VW] one works a treat.

As for the MAF. I would never install a used one as they do wear out. Still waiting on the Delphi one to arrive; i'll report back once installed...
