How to tell if my used 2007 Volvo XC90 has AWD? XC90 2007

Hi, I really need some help from the kind folks on this message board.

I'm in a bit of a pickle because I had to trade in my failing 1990 Volvo 240 wagon yesterday. (My mechanic just worked on it, and got it running, but said it was on its last legs at 361,000 km. And I've owned enough of them to know when it's time to let go.)

More importantly, I traded it in towards a 2007 XC90 3.2. Problem is that the back panels were replaced due to a fender bender, and it doesn't say anything at all, not even the VOLVO logo.

Now I need to prove to my husband that I bought an AWD or he'll make me take it back, and try and get our money back.

I honestly think it probably is AWD because it's the one thing I asked the salesman for. It also has premium options, including leather interior, CD changer, moonroof, parking assist, etc. I was also originally purchased in Edmonton, Alberta, where no one in their right mind wouldn't want AWD.

That said, is there a way for me to look under the car or something to confirm it has AWD? We need to do a big winter road trip to visit family this winter, and we desperately need that feature.

    Stick your head underneath - if it has a prop shaft then its AWD.

    Fortunately, all UK market models of the Mark 1 were AWD which makes things a bit easier for us.

    Even if the VIN says AWD, you can check it by stopping it on a sandy surface, have a friend watch from 10 feet away on the side of the car, and giving it the gas quickly to see if the rear wheels spin as well as the fronts.

    As Klaus mentioned, some AWD cars have had their rear wheel drive disconnected.

    Tell hubby that too many folks find that their cars with worn original tires are poor in snow - a good set of snow tires are much cheaper than a new AWD car and provide good performance in the snow. Buy some good snow tires!

    BTW - How many days a year do you actually drive on snow, or rather on wet or clear plowed roads?

      "How many days a year do you actually drive on snow?" Well, if the OP lives in Alberta as I do, there may not be that many hazardous driving days thru the winter but when there are, good winters+ AWD take a lot of the stress out of driving. Ask me how I know!

      I agree completely that a good set of snow tires is imperative. Over the years, I've seen tons of crashed SUVs with inappropriate tires while my old Volvo 240 wagon with sandbags in the back and good winter tires got me where I needed to go slowly but surely.

      As for snow driving, I live in the woods where there are more icy roads than anything else. And when we do get a bunch of snow, the snow plow doesn't always get to us in a timely manner. But my biggest concern is a troubling hill that dozens of people slide out on every year.

      Add to that a plan to navigate the Canadian Rockies to visit family this winter, and I'd feel so much better knowing I have AWD.

      Pretty sure I've confirmed it now, but I might try to get a visual on it now using your trick.

    Check your VIN Go to the following site, select VIN decoder:

    https://volvo.custhelp.com/app/manuals/ownersmanualinfo/year/2007/model/XC90


    If the rear drive shaft is missing, some owners removed it due to problems with the drivetrain, then take it back to the sales manager.

    Even in front wheel drive only, it will plow through snow better than a 240.
