Pink dots - was this door latch adjusted S60

My recent purchase has a drivers door that doesn't close as nicely as the other doors. Investigating I find two pink dots, one above the latch and one below the latch.

To me this looks like someone adjusted the latch or something. Any ideas?

Any chance that door was purchased from a wrecking yard? They will often mark the parts with a bright colored paint pen to identify it as one from their yard for future returns, warranty, etc. But I would have expected it to be in a more inconspicuous place like on the bottom of the door.

Check for witness marks around the edges of the hinges and the hinge bolt heads to see if there's evidence of the door being replaced or re-adjusted.

Before reading your post I did ask the sales guy about the pink dots. He said that the detail person places those dots on the doors of cars after he is finished detailing.

I also looked at the bolts and there are a few bolts that saw a wrench. Looking at the head flats you can see someone applied torque to the bolt. Other bolts still look shiny and painted.

I took the car to a collision center and had a guy come out to look. I wanted to show him the bolts in question.

He doesn't think the door was removed and that possibly those bolts that are in question are the last bolts to be installed at the factory. Kind of a last torque down of the door? He said he can't be 100% certain and could only know if he saw other Volvo's that had the same bolts showing a wrench had been applied.

I did hypothesize the same thing about the factory. Without messing up the other shiny, painted bolts there would not be a way to remove the door.

I included a pic of the bolt. Sorry my phone camera isn't that great and the shiny bolts didn't show but the front one that looks like it had a wrench on it does show. Weird thing is that both front doors have the same bolt issues.

I hope I didn't cause any undue alarm. Actually the "detailer mark" theory is quite plausible. We were recently car shopping and on some of the cars we noted a little paint mark on the upper LH corner of the windshield. The salesman told us that's a mark left by the detailer so that the sales people know if the car has been detailed yet or not.

It would also make sense that the bolt heads would show socket marks due to the door getting a final adjustment after the paint was applied. How do the other three doors' hinge bolts look?

No you didn't cause any alarm. The passengers door has the same bolt marks and the rear look like the hinge bolt head is within the B pillar.

I talked to the sales guy and he said the CPO warranty would apply and I can bring it in for the service department to mess with.

It isn't that bad but the times the door doesn't close bugs me.

On the other hand maybe I should let well enough alone. There is no wind noise from that door. If this door has been like this for a long time, the seals have mated to the door edges and moving the door could open up an ever so slight gap and then wind noise.

The seals don't look like they have been pinched and could probably handle any adjustments to the door. Adjusting 1/32 at a time would not be much movement.

Sadly doors closing as they are designed is one of my pressure points. :(
SO I am probably musing about this more than I should. Like the CVT on our recent Outback drove me crazy but my wife never noticed. I sit their thinking how could she not notice the put-put-put herky-jerky of the CVT in stop and go traffic??

Bought that Outback in June 2018 and traded in last week on the Volvo. I really like this V60. Getting out of a car that I only owned for 9 months meant I took about a $5,000 hit. But it was worth it!
