Motor noise after not running it for two months 850 1996

I had my 850, with 20 valve motor, up at the top of the property for two months while my wife wasn't driving (used her car). Now that I've started it again, I'm getting a ticking noise. If it were an overhead valve motor with mechanical lifters, it would be a loose valve rocker arm. But my understanding is these use either shims or hydraulic lifters, and it wasn't make that noise before storage; so not sure what it could be. It's coming from the area of the front (relative to the motor's placement in the car) camshaft.

Never mind....after five minutes, the noise went away, so I assume it was that the oil needed to work its way into all the nooks and crannies.

My experience was the same as jwalker when I left our '95 844 idle for one summer - we had an extra car. The ticking went away after a week or so.

When our '95 855 was ticking when my daughter returned from Edmonton Alberta, it was due for an oil change. The oil change cured the issue.

Is your car due for an oil change? We did our 850s every 3300 miles, that way the lined up with 10K services.

Thanks. It's a comfort to know it's not odd behavior.

After an 850 sits for awhile it can take some time for the oil to get into the lifters. Until that happens you will have the ticking noise. Could be worse. My old 93 850 sat for months until I sold it. It too had the lifter noise when I started it. Except it didn’t go away! I had to resort to using Marvel Mystery Oil mixed in an oil change to clean it. That got rid of the ticking.
