Trailer hitch and wiring S40-V40 2005

Fixing to flat tow a car soon so looking at trailer hitch and wiring options.

Trailer hitch: The aftermarket offerings are all Class 1 with 1.25" receivers. Anyone know of a 2" receiver for these cars? Doubtful but it would be preferred.

Wiring for lights: Can anyone confirm for me that Volvo's adapter alone will give my car a working 4-pin trailer wiring plug?
Example: https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/products/Cable-Harness-kit/1146714/31257590.html

It appears to be more or less plug and play but there's other parts on the diagram for modules that require dealer programming... I'm not about to shell out that kind of cash. I'll go full aftermarket at that point, cheesy T-tap connectors and all.

Thanks!

-Will

Trailer hitch and wiring S40-V40 2005

I seem to recall that Volvo uses 2 items for the wiring, the first is the connector box, the second is the wires to the trailer plug. You could look at this:
    https://www.etrailer.com/p-119179KIT.html

Volvo rates it's cars for a 3500# max towing. That is class II. A larger class hitch requires a rear subframe attachment. Most of the problems occur with the tongue weight being exceeded, and pulling down on the rear suspension. Few people think of the other problem, towing something => the Volvo, especially while trying to stop.

My brother was moving from Ohio to Florida, then his wife and 2 kids climbed into the Corvair with the VW attached to the rear(loaded with suitcases, etc.). He encountered his first problem going downhill into Knoxville on I-75, the brakes! There was no panic stopping, just very slow slow deceleration and very white knuckles.
