throttle body replacement S80

I recently purchased a 2001 S-80, with a 2.9 non-turbo engine. The car has been involved in a front-end accident which will require replacing the hood, headlights, core support, radiator, condenser, and bumper. The vehicle has just under 85K on the odometer so I couldn't pass it up. As I was doing the tear-down the other day I noticed that the front of the throttle body assembly is dented in and will most likely need to be replaced also. Is this simply a bolt on procedure, or will the vehicle need to be taken to the dealership, after the part is installed, to have the new throttle body synced the the vehicle?

Interesting. I believe that a new TB will require an update as it communicates with the ECU through the CCM. Too many computers! The car should start and run but there will be an error code.

Of course, depending on the 'dent', the TB might still work properly. Save it for last.

Thanks Klaus, as always, for your response. The car does start and run, although I haven't installed the radiator yet. I connected the trans lines together with a piece of hose in order to drive the vehicle in an out of the garage while under repair. There isn't a check engine light on, but the engine lopes a bit while I am moving the car in and out of the garage. The dent is on the driver side corner of the square metal face (toward the front of the vehicle)of the throttle body and I thought about cutting its seal and removing the square metal plate in order to inspect its inner workings. I probably will leave replacement until last, but that will make it more difficult to access once I have installed the radiator, condenser and fan.

        Consider the XeModX option...

They can rebuild yours, or provide an exchange that won’t require any software updates...

Thanks for the insight. I took an x-acto knife and unsealed the front of the throttle body this week.Surprisingly, there was nothing of consequence behind the damaged area of its face-plate, so I straightened the metal out and used RTV to seal the unit back up. I just finished welding in the radiator supports and will hang the radiator, condenser and fan assembly back in today.
