you light up my life! V70-XC70 2003

So my daughter, who is 90 miles away awaiting grad school, called me the other day and informed me that the 2003 V70 , which as gotten her through undergrad studies, has developed a quirk this week. When she got back to her apartment the other day( a really hot humid day by the way) she turned the car off and removed the key but the dash lights, radio and fan decided to stay on. She was able to restart the car then it off again and everything was fine---for the moment. Any ideas as to what is going on---what is needed to fix it---and does this require a trip to the dealer?

Probably just the ignition switch starting to fail. Replacement is easy, just remove the plastic around the steering column and replace the switch.

If it happens again, no need to start the engine, just move the key to position II and back to zero.

As always Klaus, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. The ignition switch was my first thought also, but I thought I would put the problem out there and see if anyone else had experienced similar symptoms with this model.
