2004 V70 Radiator Replacement Interval V70-XC70 2004

This car has 210k miles on it and I'm about to perform the 105k maintenance & install new coolant hoses as a preventive maintenance procedure. Should I also change the radiator? Thanks.
Marlin

Not unless it leaks. I usually save the large hose replacement for when the radiator begins to leak, or when the top hose appears to weaken visibly.

If you do change the large hoses, do not over tighten the clamps! Tighten the clamps until you can no longer twist the hose with your hand. Try to place the clamp the same distance from the radiator as before.

Related to my recent cooling system drain and fill with fresh coolant on 2000 V70:

Pulled the bottom hose on the radiator to drain the coolant. Now, with the same hose and clamp back on, there's a slow drip. The car has gone through a couple of hot/cold driving cycles since then. Tighten the clamp a little more, and the drip stops. But then the drip reappears after the next hot/cold cycle.

I'm leery of overtightening. I know the plastic tank where the hose connects is prone to cracking when overtightening the hose clamp.

Is this a situation where a small amount of sealant can be used to stop a leak?

The clamp and the hose must be positioned exactly where it was before removal. If you are off by 1/8 inch, the plastic tube from the radiator will have to form a new 'groove' caused by the initial clamp placement.

Correct about over tightening the clamp. I grab the hose and try to twist it. If it moves even less than a mm, then tighten it a bit more until the hose is really snug. Use a screwdriver to tighten the clamp, a socket wrench can easily lead to over tightening.

Might have to replace the hose, it doesn't want to set and the drip continues. Hose replacement isn't a bad thing; it's probably over due anyway.

Of course, it's your call. Personally, I wouldn't replace it unless there is an issue with it. But I'm cheap...:)

If the radiator has been flushed and you keep clean coolant in it there might be lots of miles left in it. The radiator in my 240 was still going at 300k.
