VVT on exhaust cam V70-XC70 2006

Okay,

Once I figured out why the cam timing was off by a mile, during assembly, I noticed that manual rotation (belt removed), the exhaust cam VVT feels "crunchy" I was not forcing it hard enough to actually rotate the cam...it was locked in place.

So is this a clean the part deal, or spend $300 or more on a new one. Thoughts, experiences? Note it does operate normally without throwing a code.

Jorrell

This is just a 'bump' to get your post back on top.

"Crunchy" is strange. But, I would not expect smooth either. Removing the VVT is a royal pain and so long as it is working properly, I would leave it alone.

Klaus, not a bump, I've probably been away for 4 or so years from BB. It is just that I trust your opinion on these newfangled cars... I miss the 245.

Not really sure what you're asking.
You can't pull the VVT hub apart to clean it. Just have to replace it when it fails.

Also not sure why this is an issue since everything is working fine.
I'd let it go for now too.
