Water in Passenger Carpet S40-V40 2006

My car has a musty smell due to the front passenger carpet being damp and the rear passenger carpet being soaked after a long trip. Before the last 1,200 mile trip I used an air fan and completely dried out the carpets. At the end of the trip the rear carpet was soaked. This was in cold weather. While I had the heat on - the AC light was lit. Does not smell of antifreeze.

Two issues - first is to identify the cause and stop and moisture. Second if getting rid of the smell.

The S/V40's have a problem with clogged sunroof drains. Check yours before doing anything else. There is a drain hole on both sides at the front of the sunroof. I use a plastic measuring cup and slowly pour water into the drain hole and waiting for the water to drip out of the bottom around the A pillar.

If it is clogged, find a flexible cable or like and try to snake it through the hole and down at least 18 inches.

you may need to take the A pillar cover off, the S40s leak as Klaus says but I have also seen the plastic tubes in the A pillar shrinks, heat to Home Depot to get some plastic tube to connect them up. Also by bet is you will have to remove the seats and carpet to fully dry the car and carpet out. That was my experience.

        I'll just post to confirm "Tim's" post. A cousin's '05 S40 had the same issue. -- Dave
