Got the right size, had 'em mounted, full steering stop is rubbing -ugh
Not horrible and small spot, but anything to do?

Had the same problem with my 2004 v70 replaced the steering stops and the rubbing stopped. The car has a huge turning circle compared to my RWD 960

New steering stops worked great. Thanks! Turning radius is crazy but K turns aren't that hard.
I got OEM bumpers, called rollers on the label, but there are no actual rollers involved. Just solid rubber, which some reviews of other brands were reported to have fallen off. The previous owner had turned them once already. That is, switching the sides, turning them upside down. I think that only buys a short amount of time. They were not greased, and I would think that grease (as required with all older models) would help the longevity. So I greased. I installed no washers as shims as you might see on YouTube. Clearance seems awfully tight so we will see how long they last. Super easy job. Didn't need to take the wheels off

Both tires or just one side? Check the front of the control arms and see if the 'stop' bumper is still attached - usually a strip of plastic.

Ever look at the front wheel liners in your '97?

My '96 855R with Volans had wheel liners that had a lot of material less than the liners in our regular 855 for additional wheel clearance. I think that the shock towers showed through. I also think that I had liner rubs in the '96.

Don't use full lock - if you hit the stops, back off a bit.

What wheels do you have? Do they rub in both directions? If not, an alignment might help.

At Volvo's site in the accessories section there are many wheel listings for many years of their cars. I found that I can put my '96 855R Volans on our '08 or '12 XC 70s - only a few cm difference - I'm going to try them.

Some stops are adjustable - even by bending them. Perhaps a good welder could add material to them.
