I bought a 2016 S80 T5 today. It was used with 20K miles on it. This is the last year of the S80 which has been replaced by a new S90. If you have not been keeping up, all of the new Volvos are 2.0L four cylinder engines. The number in the model number no longer tells you the number of cylinders. There are three engines, T5, T6, and T8. The T5 is turbo only. The T6 is supercharged turbo. The T8 is a hybrid with both the gasoline engine and an electric engine.
These engines are start stop technology. It is a complicated algorithm as to when it stops the engine. I drove 85 miles home and the only time I noticed the engine stop was when I stopped in my driveway.
There are lots of features that are controlled with no touch screen. This car has Sirius XM, Bluetooth, and navigation. After I figured out how to set the average fuel economy, I saw as high as 37 MPG on the road and it runs on regular gas. Our 2007 S80 3.2 requires premium fuel.

Sounds like a great car. I am looking at buying an S80 from this year (or '14-'15). Just curious: is yours AWD? Also wondering where you found yours. They are scarce in these parts, but I can travel.

He doesn't give a location, but not far from Sturbridge:

It is, and I had seen that. The dealer is in MA and seems to have a pretty good history. I was looking for a newer car, but that one does look good! What do you know about that year? I am wary of engine and AWD issues. Haven't looked at the history of S80s (or XC70s) from that year.
Also saw this. Different animal, but looks intriguing: https://vermont.craigslist.org/cto/d/wallingford-volvo-s60/7296876549.html
Thanks!

The awd versions of the S80 have a turbo 6cyl. But, you are correct. I would also go for a newer S80. This one is slightly over priced at 8k, the same 8K should get you close to 2011. The 2013-15 are around 10K and under 120K miles.
Keep looking. The AWD is quite nice and much improved in the newer cars.
The S60 is much smaller, noisier, and rides rougher than the S80. The one in the ad is due for a timing belt.

Thank you again!
I thought 2K was a pretty good price for that S60 AWD, assuming it is in good order.

Except that they have an asking price of $4K, and it is around time for a timing belt.

Yeah, I realized that after I responded. 2K is, like, twoce as much as 4K. :)

The most important thing is the wife loves it. Once on a flat 200 mile run on I81 in VA the average MPG got up to 42.
I do not like not having a dip stick. I don't think I got it full the last time. it brought on the service needed light at about 5000 miles. I discovered the oil low and added a quart and reset the light. Now it will not come on at 10,000 like it should.
On another note, unlike earlier NAV systems, the updates for Sensus are free. Download them to a thumb drive. Plug it in the USB port and it detects the and updates the car.
Lastly, we have a small COVID issue. We are not driving it enough to keep the battery charged. A message comes on about that. I had the battery checked and it is still fine. I can deal with this.

You can put a trickle charger to keep the battery full charge.
Too many electronics that just drain the battery.

A little long term update. The fuel rail pressure sensor went out on this one just like the 2007, 3.2 a few months ago. This car is still under warranty, so the dealer had to fix it.
I hit a truck tire tread on the interstate and it took out the fog light surround on the left side. I let the dealer replace it when they did the last free service at 30,000 miles.
The car is Magic Blue. Since it had been a rental fleet car, I did some research and selected a local detailer to clean and buff out the paint. After two attempts you can still see buffer swirls in the paint in bright sunlight. Sigh. Doing more research on local detailers.
I took it to a local tire dealer to have the alignment checked and the tires rotated an balanced. They discovered two bent wheels. Apparently this is common on luxury brand cars. There were two scalloped tires, too. They put them on the front, so I turned off the STC and removed the scallops with a couple of burn outs. I hired a alloy wheel repair shop to straighten the wheels and polish out the curb rash on three for $300. He did beautiful work.
The navigations system is almost impossible to use with voice commands. Programming in a destination with the controls is tedious and time consuming.
Overall, the wife loves the car and that is all that really matters.

Drove it 100 miles each way on the interstate yesterday. Got 36 mpg on regular gas at 80 mph. Overall, including driving on surface streets in Atlanta got 33 mpg. It was so hot there, it only stop/started a couple of times. I had to get tickled about the last one. It was back home in the garage. I stopped short of the desired spot and it stopped, too. It had to restart to pull up two feet,

The engine stop/start can get annoying in city traffic. Make a mental note of the location of the button to cancel this feature. My wife's BMW has a problem when going through car washes that have a pulley to push the car through, just putting it in "N" doesn't work.
I like your MPG!

There are rumors that the battery only lasts 4-5 years. Not really a 'problem' except for station wagons where the battery is in the rear, and you cannot raise the tailgate to gain access without electricity. Oh, BTW, the glovebox cannot be opened without a battery charge!
That explains why I couldn't find an oil dipstick in the 2017 XC90!

Nice car! I hope you got dynamic cruise control that keeps a set distance from cars in front of you. AND lane keeping assist that works when the cruise is on. I loved that feature on interstate highways, it will turn for you!
Now, for your 2007 S80. The Volvo manual says this about fuel:
"Octane rating
Volvo engines are designed to achieve rated horsepower, torque, and fuel economy performance using premium 91 octane fuel.
Volvo recommends premium for best performance, but using 87 octane or above will not affect engine reliability.
In demanding driving conditions, such as operating the vehicle in hot weather, towing a trailer, or driving for extended periods at higher altitudes than normal, it may be advisable to switch to higher octane fuel (91 or higher) or to change gasoline brands to fully utilize your engine's capacity, and for the smoothest possible operation."
So, unless you are racing, use regular.

I forgot to mention, I have run 89 Octane gas in the 2007 S80. I can tell a noticeable difference in it and premium fuel. It is particularly noticeable when returning to the throttle after a period of coasting. There is a small hesitation like an older car that is in need of new points and plugs.

They had one with the Technology Package, but it had higher mileage and the wife did not like the color. Some report that stuff is a PITA. Like if you get to the side of a lane.
