1998 V70-XC70

I mistakenly locked V70 without keyfob and had AAA open car. I have been unable to disconnect auto alarm even though I have removed the typical fuses under the hood. Battery disconnected for time being.

I have a V70 Volvo fob now but was told by dealer I would have to take the vehicle there for reprogramming.

Can someone please let me know the exact steps to take if this can be done without the key fob. Thank-you in advance.

Just to get rid of the noise, disconnect the alarm horn that is mounted on the firewall. That will give you some peace when you reconnect the battery and fuses.

The alarm should have turned off: When you locked the car with the key. Try that a couple of times. It should have also turned off when you started the engine. Be careful with the engine start, it needs to run for a few minutes before shutdown so you don't get "lawn mower" syndrome.

You can tell when the security is off by watching the red LED on top of the dash.

As for a remote, the dealer may balk if the remote is not the original that came with the car. They typically charge one hour of labor to program a remote, and they like to supply the remote for an additional $150.

The remote does nothing more than the key. But it is nice when approaching the car from the passenger side and be able to open the passenger door.

TY I will let you know. I have been told a company in our area a mobile e key outfit can come out and reprogram key fob to vehicle. Mine as I said is 98 and the one I was given by used car dealer was for a 97. On the radio I have heard the e key advertize that the take AAA as part of their payment. The total is approx. 125 USD. What was kicker is that I could not unlock the car with the key after hitting inside power locks. Battery may have been dead. Will disconnect alarm and work on it with window open.

Whoa, the key is mechanical and will unlock the driver's door even if the battery is dead.

Is this a fairly new car for you? Check the key with the glove box lock, if it doesn't work someone may have changed the ignition tumbler from a junk yard car.

Or, the driver's door lock failed. There is a metal lever that gets pushed/pulled with the handle lock which may have fallen out??? Open the door and pull off the small black plastic cover near the top of the door jam. Shine a flash light in and look for a metal rod.

Your advice solved the problem. Had to reconnect push rod which is attached to door handle. Once I did so, I was able to start the vehicle. Thank you again. I have owned 240's. an 850, S40 and now this V70, still have had the best experience with my old 240's.

Bought V70 because it is all wheel drive and easy to get my elderly Mom in and out of. Have had my fill of Cherokee XJ's so I wanted to give V70 a shot.
