which model years are best? S60

The wife is INSISTING on an S60 (she has an S40 now)... I can only afford pre-owned. I find that I can afford 2012-2014 (roughly $20K). Now I see that there are different engine types (2.5, 3.0), and various designations (Premium, etc.). I started my reading, but it gets complicated!!! In short, what is the best 'bang for the buck'? Which engine gets the better MPG, reliability ? Any info that you could pass on so that I can eliminate all the pre-purchase questions would be helpful. What would you buy?

A couple of things bug me about the newer s60's. There is no spare tire, only a can of fixit and an electric pump. Also there is no temperature gauge, only a warning light. Lastly, they look like all the other Asian models. Yes, I'm an old school brickdiver. FYI

I have to agree with Chris, the T5 engine is extremely reliable. Will you need AWD on Long Island? What's with the dealers in NYC area, not posting prices on used cars??? Volvo's Premier option is just moon roof and a couple of 'normal' features all Volvo's are supposed to have anyway.

Make sure Mrs. is included in the purchase decision, it will be 'her' car.

If I had to make a choice between 2.5 and 3.0, I'd probably go for the newest 2.5 I could afford. They'll get a tad better MPG and they have adequate get up and go. The 4 cylinder Drive-E kind of piques my interest, but they are still pretty new which means more expensive and less reliability data.

I think Mrs. AlanS deserves heated seats.

I don't get all the trim level designations either. It's ridiculous. I would just look for whatever car gives you the level of bells and whistles you desire.

It's interesting, but I guess it's because used S60's are so plentiful, but it looks to me like you can get a lot more bang for the buck purchasing an S60 compared to an S40.

Good luck!
