Door Locking System V70-XC70 2004

Tks for all the help with spark plugs for the V70 in an earlier post. Settled on NGK plugs.
Have a quirky issue with the door locking system on the 2004 V70. The automatic door lock system is engaging itself automatically, Have disconnected the battery to reset the system and it continues to re-lock. Have an OBD reader/reset handheld if that could help.
Hints, kinks, suggestions, short of the HIGH labor rate at the dealers.

Hey Jose - if you found your problem, how about letting us know what it was - this board works better with feedback, but MANY, MANY posters ask for help, but are unwilling to help others!

If you have a locking switch on the dash, try disconnecting that. If not, try the disconnecting the switch on the door.

This has worked for another BB member with the same problem.

An old Volvo tech once told me that Volvo switches can be the weak link in some circuits.

To pull the switch, try gently prying it out from the side. One side of the switch has a clip that will break if you pry it out, the other side is meant to pry out gently. If one side won't cooperate, try the other side.

I do not know which side to pry, so try both sides, or ask the board to help you with this specific question. I have removed several switches over the years, some time ago.

Interestingly, many Volvo procedures start with a small screwdriver and prying - the secret is knowing where to pry first.

I did a search, and if you have a noise in the dash, the problem could be a relay.

When is the door locking itself? Are you using the key or the remote to unlock the car? Disconnecting the battery will do nothing for you, pulling the proper fuse might reset the system. A hand held scanner will do nothing for you.

Klaus - didn't you have that same problem on your 850?

The 2004 is a lot newer! I would suspect it is a relay, but I don't know enough about the problem to make an educated guess.

To me, a bad switch is always an educated guess - because it is generally easy to disconnect a shorted switch or bypass an open switch.

Switches are one of the few electrical components that are available for humans to abuse, er, I mean use properly, but maybe a lot.
